Ongoing There’s Good and Evil in Everyone: The Films of William Friedkin Series | An ongoing series celebrating the life and career of filmmaker William Friedkin
ABOUT THE SERIES: “I believe it’s true that there’s good and evil in everyone and it’s a constant struggle to have your better angels prevail.” – William Friedkin The American Cinematheque pays tribute to legendary filmmaker and friend William Friedkin with a monthly series exploring his legendary body of work. Starting out in the 1960s as a documentary filmmaker, Friedkin’s films have always been marked by a commitment to character-forward storytelling. From SORCERER to CRUISING, THE EXORCIST to TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A., finely crafted action sequences and supernatural spectacle form the backdrop for his protagonists’ personal and moral journeys, often culminating in a profound change in worldview that resonates long after the end credits roll. Having garnered widespread acclaim for 1971’s THE FRENCH CONNECTION, Friedkin maintained a sense of humility and a supreme dedication to the craft of filmmaking throughout his celebrated tenure in Hollywood, which sadly came to an end in 2023 with the highly-anticipated THE CAINE MUTINY COURT-MARTIAL.
