ABOUT THE SERIES: The American Cinematheque is thrilled to welcome friends of the AC to present a film they feel has been forgotten, but always loved during this Lost Weekend of Forgotten Films. Featuring introductions from filmmakers Larry Karaszewski, Mike Flanagan, Ana Lily Amirpour and critics, journalists and authors Kelly Goodner, Jim Hemphill, Scott Foundas, Tim Grierson, Kirsten Lopez, Courtney Howard, Joshua Rothkopf and Mark Olsen, the Lost Weekend puts a spotlight back on films like Carroll Ballard’s NEVER CRY WOLF, Harmony Korine’s MISTER LONELY and Louis Malle’s BLACK MOON among many forgotten films. Carroll Ballard’s NEVER CRY WOLF explores a vast man v nature loneliness in a majestic landscape while surveying the declining caribou population of the Canadian wilderness. While UP THE CREEK’s Lobotomy U students compete in a hilarious collegiate raft race. In one of Kirsten Dunst’s earlier roles and Amy Adams’ film debut, DROP DEAD GORGEOUS‘s darkly humorous exploration of small-town ambition follows a beauty pageant turned deadly. A few years later, Adams returns to the screen with JUNEBUG, an intimate portrait of family dynamics in the South. For the Sunday Print Edition, PETER IBBETSON’s timeless romance transcends reality and defies the boundaries of time. MISTER LONELY, Harmony Korine’s whimsical exploration of identity and artistry, features Diego Luna as Michael Jackson and Samantha Morton as Marilyn Monroe in a surreal world of celebrity impersonators. Fantasy and reality intertwine in a dreamlike narrative in the enigmatic landscape of Louis Malle’s BLACK MOON. HEART AND SOULS embraces the heartwarming tale of interconnected souls with Robert Downey Jr. as a ruthless banker who is tasked with guiding spirits on a journey of laughter, tears, and profound revelations.
