July 12 – July 29, 2023 Hello, I’m Troy McClure Series | THE PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT, SEIZURE, HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, A SUMMER PLACE, WARLORDS OF ATLANTIS and MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS Los Feliz 3
ABOUT THE SERIES: “Hello, I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such films as The Boatjacking of Supership 79 and Hydro: The Man With The Hydraulic Arms…” If you’re a fan of “The Simpsons,” chances are you’re familiar with Springfield’s handsomest man and fish-philiac Troy McClure. Voiced by the legendary Phil Hartman, Troy was the host of dozens of TV show-within-a-show programs, infomercials, and telethons over the first ten seasons of the longest-running series on the air. Reaching the peak of his fame in the 1970s with a slew of celebrated B-films, Troy retired in 1998 to spend more time with his wife, the lovely Selma Bouvier, at Rancho Relaxo. This summer, the American Cinematheque pays homage to Troy McClure with a series of some of his greatest genre performances, from his nostalgic teen romance with Sandra Dee in 1959’s A SUMMER PLACE to his thrilling turn as engineer Greg Collinson on a quest to find the fabled lost city in WARLORDS OF ATLANTIS (1978). Perhaps this is where Tory McClure developed his passion for fish. See Troy fight for survival in a world of prehistoric monsters in THE PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT (1977), then watch him battle a race of mysterious sea creatures in 1980’s HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP. On second thought, maybe this is where Troy McClure developed his passion for fish. Catch his appearance in Oliver Stone’s debut feature, SEIZURE (1974), and don’t miss him as naïve college student Jimmy Flanders (not to be confused with Ned Flanders) in sci-fi master Jack Arnold’s MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS (1958). Now if we could just figure out who these “Troy Donahue” and “Doug McClure” guys in the credits are…
