Set in Winnipeg during the Great Depression in 1933, eccentric Baroness Lady Port-Huntley (Isabella Rossellini) launches a campaign to find the saddest music in the world, and before long musicians from all over the globe are making their way to her Winnipeg home to try and win a prize of $25,000. When failed Broadway producer Chester Kent (Mark McKinney) and his amnesiac girlfriend Narcissa (Maria de Medeiros) arrive, they find themselves getting embroiled in the bizarre competition.
