ABOUT THE FILMS:

THE NARROW MARGIN, Dir. Richard Fleischer, 71 Min, Park Circus, USA

Originally released June 27, 1952

The greatest “B” movie of them all!  The first film screened at the inaugural Film Noir Festival in 1999 makes its return to Noir City! Co-stars Marie Windsor and Charles McGraw trade priceless billingsgate as he ferries her across the rails from Chicago to L.A., where she’s scheduled to testify in a racket-busting trial. Plenty of twist and turns on the route, rendered with maximum punch and pace by director Fleischer. Also starring Jacqueline White, Gordon Gebert, Queenie Leonard, David Clarke and Don Beddoe.

FORMAT: 35mm

RIFIFI, Dir. Jules Dassin, 118 Min, Rialto Pictures, France

Originally released April 13, 1955

In French with English subtitles.

The standard against which all heist films are measured. Parisian crooks attempt the biggest score of their checkered careers: the robbery of a high-end jewelry store. Ex-con Tony (Jean Servais), a blend of finesse and toughness, assembles the perfect crew of henchmen. The caper unfolds overnight with flawless precision—rendered in a fantastically tense extended sequence without any dialogue or music. What to do with the loot? Put the kid through school? Help a sister raise her family? Or, as one guy says, “I don’t know.” These guys are too human to commit the perfect crime. A fatal flaw emerges where we least expect it.
