ABOUT THE FILM:
Finally released outside Japan for the first time, this unique riff on H.G. Wells’ classic character and Universal’s iconic series is a jewel of the early Daiei Studios output, and a subtle portrayal of the post-WWII American occupation following Hiroshima/Nagasaki. After years of work, Professor Nakazato invents an invisibility formula — something that catches the extreme interest of a gang of jewel thieves that want to acquire a diamond necklace called the “Tears of Amour.” The film’s entertaining SFX were an early credit for the legendary Eiji Tsuburaya, five years before he first brought Godzilla to life!
