In 2006, as star baseball pitcher Chien-Ming Wang fills the airwaves in Taiwan, the peace is shattered when a murder is committed in a public marketplace. Miss Hu approaches the police, claiming that her missing father knew the murder victim’s father. Chang, the policeman leading the murder case, inadvertently learns of another homicide in Caotun Township where the victim’s father also knew the marketplace victim’s father. What past binds these fathers together? As Chang and his detective partner Tsai search for clues, their investigations gradually diverge. Chang unearths a 1956 criminal case involving communist spies, and discovers the fathers were involved with a reading group from that era. Tsai closes in on the killer, but finds himself in mortal danger. Meanwhile, Miss Hsu’s missing father is held captive in a mirror room by the mysterious Mo, who awakens his memories of the past.
