- RELEASED IN: 1994
- 92 MINUTES
- DIRECTED BY: Michael Almereyda
ABOUT THE FILM:
NADJA, executive-produced by David Lynch (who appears in a cameo) was shot in 35mm black-and-white alternating with Fisher-Price “Pixelvision” video. It features the suitably surreal presence of Elina Lowensohn as the titular vampire, matched by Peter Fonda as Van Helsing, her crazed nemesis. The film received Spirit Award nominations for Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Cinematography.
“A genuinely affecting comedy-horror film that updates the Dracula lineage to present-day New York City. Infinitely subdued, sexy, and melancholy, NADJA is one of the most stylish and quietly exhilarating genre movies to arrive in a long time.” – Hal Hinson, The Austin Chronicle.
“Almereyda alternates lush 35mm images and distinctly, beautifully artifacted PixelVision with the ravenous force of a vampire’s lust.” – Nick Newman, Le Cinema Club.
