ABOUT THE FILM: HOLLOW TRIUMPH, 83 Minutes, USA. Originally released August 18, 1948 by Eagle-Lion Films Screenplay by Daniel Fuchs, from the novel by Murray Forbes Produced by Paul Henreid Directed by Steve Sekely Fugitive crook Johnny Muller (Paul Henreid) finds the perfect hiding place—in the guise of a psychiatrist who is his identical twin… almost. There’s one small difference between them, and it causes a chain reaction of confusion and double crosses that more than justifies the film’s bleak title. HOLLOW TRIUMPH is one of the sublime examples of noir fatalism, with a clever script that will keep you guessing right up until the end. It’s also an amazingly evocative look at 1940s Los Angeles photographed by the great John Alton. Few people could make a low-budget look this good. This was the first film produced by romantic leading-man Henreid, who like many actors in the late 1940s turned to crime dramas to revitalize their careers. Co-starring Joan Bennett at her flinty best. CAST: Paul Henreid (John Muller / Dr. Victor Emil Bartok), Joan Bennett (Evelyn Hahn), Eduard Franz (Frederick Muller), Leslie Brooks (Virginia Taylor), John Qualen (Swangron), Mabel Paige (charwoman), Herbert Rudley (Marcy), Charles Arnt (Coblenz), George Chandler (Aubrey), Sid Tomack (Artell), Charles Trowbridge (deputy), Thomas Browne Henry (Rocky Stanwyck) FORMAT: 35mm
