A family on the run from a corrupt state in the near-future takes refuge in a safe farmhouse, unaware that the evil past of the place may be more dangerous than they could ever think. Bo Mirhosseni’s incisive horror film uses political discourse to examine the horrors of the near-and-far past and the ways in which fascism and evil continue to thrive. Produced by Babak Anvari, who is no stranger to the genre, HISTORY OF EVIL thrives on ratcheting the tension for the audience through its brief running time, looking to wrangle every ounce of horror it can from its story. Not for the weak-of-heart, this breathless tale features amazing performances from Star Trek’s Paul Wesley and Orange is the New Black star Jackie Cruz, as well as an entire cast of incredible performers. Landing like a bomb in the midst of the political discourse and upheaval of our day and age, Mirhosseni’s film is a cautionary tale for those astute enough to listen.
