ABOUT THE FILM:
Featuring Jerzy Skolimowski’s final performance as his alter ego, Andrzej Leszczyc, HANDS UP! paints a surrealistic portrait of Polish society in the 1960’s and ruminates on the effects that Stalinism left on the country. A group of doctors in the grip of middle-aged conformity reunite in a railway cattle truck to a flood of bitter memories. Originally withheld by Polish censors in 1967, Skolimowski was able to complete the film in 1981 with new footage shot during the 1970’s.
