ABOUT THE FILM:
I WAKE UP SCREAMING is an early and totally unique film noir with one of the greatest titles ever. Starring Betty Grable in a rare dramatic role, the plot turns on a murder involving a promoter and the girl he groomed for stardom. The movie features amazing performances from Victor Mature, Carole Landis, and Laird Cregar, who steals the show as an obsessive police detective. Director H. Bruce Humberstone’s minor masterpiece epitomizes the distinctive visual style and storytelling tropes (flashbacks anyone?!) that would soon come to define film noir. Seriously, this movie has it all: a punchy script, amazing cinematography, and Victor Mature in a speedo. Yowzah!
