ABOUT THE EVENT: OUTFEST BOOK CLUB! Join us for a series of screenings paired with discussions around recent LGBTQIA+ book releases. Before the screening of CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?, author Kyle Turner will introduce the film in relation to his new book, The Queer Film Guide: 100 Great Movies That Tell LGBTQIA+ Stories. ABOUT THE FILM: Melissa McCarthy stars as Lee Israel, a troubled author left reeling after the critical and professional failure of her latest biography. Strapped for cash, she begins forging correspondence from dead celebrities, dodging suspicion from collectors and the authorities while her personal life spirals into isolation and alcoholism. Directed by Marielle Heller (A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD) and co-written by Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty, CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? is a darkly comic character study of a woman whose internal struggle for acceptance reveals the flaws and limitations of the world around her.
