ABOUT THE FILM Jason Sudeikis is Jimmy, a convicted felon serving time for armed robbery who is given early parole. Upon release, he vows to give the love of his life, Annie, played by Evangeline Lilly, the best years of her life as she is dying from cancer. However, the path to true love never did run straight and soon Jimmy is hounded by Schmidt – a sleazy Shea Wigham in top form – a parole officer with an insidious agenda. Aharon Keshales’ magnificent piece of Southern noir is a beautifully nuanced ride that is reminiscent of the best of Ed Brubaker’s Criminal series – every character and encounter is fleshed out with humane detail in a tough, tough world and it’s hard not to care for these characters who find themselves in difficult moral dilemmas. Add to the mix some terrific cinematography and a great score and you have a film that sizzles with verve and excitement with intermittent action set-pieces that truly impress – one of the truly great examples of character-driven noir that is far too rare to see on the big screen. Fans of Evangeline & Sudeikis will find particular delight in seeing these versatile actors spark off each other in roles that were almost-custom written for them. – Evrim Ersoy FORMAT: DCP DISTRIBUTOR: RLJ Entertainment
