Largely unseen since its debut in 1989, DR. CALIGARI returns to the big screen to finally receive the appraise it deserves – a weird, unsettling and yet funny experience, this underground exploitation classic is a loose remake of the original THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI focusing on the treatment of Mrs. Van Houten under Dr. Caligari for a ‘disease of the libido’. Switching the original’s striking black-and-white photography for eye-popping color and kitsch Americana, director Sayadian burrows a satire of excess underneath the skin of an erotic nightmare.
