The American Cinematheque Board of Directors will present the 38th American Cinematheque Award to Jessica Chastain on Friday, December 6, 2024 at a ceremony at The Beverly Hilton.

Jessica Chastain

Celebrated for her work across film, television, and theater, Jessica Chastain holds an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a Drama Desk, 5 Critic’s Choice, and three SAG Awards. She has also received multiple nominations including an Emmy, 2 Tonys, 5 SAG, 2 BAFTA, 3 Academy Award, 6 Critic’s Choice and 9 Golden Globes. Having trained at The Juilliard School, Jessica’s journey began with breakthrough roles in acclaimed films such as THE HELP, Terrence Malick’s THE TREE OF LIFE, and ZERO DARK THIRTY.

Some of her most notable roles include her captivating portrayal of Tammy Faye Bakker in THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE, the astronaut Melissa Lewis in THE MARTIAN, the enigmatic Murph in INTERSTELLAR, as well as the real-life figure Molly Bloom In MOLLY’S GAME. In addition to these notable roles, Jessica has appeared in numerous other films, including TAKE SHELTER, LAWLESS, MISS SLOANE, and CRIMSON PEAK. On television, she starred in the critically acclaimed miniseries GEORGE & TAMMY for Showtime and SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE for HBO.

Her notable roles in theatre include Nora in Jamie Lloyd’s A DOLL’S HOUSE, Catherine Sloper in THE HEIRESS, and SALOME opposite Al Pacino. Jessica’s talent extends behind the camera through Freckle Films, a New York based film and television production company, which she launched in 2016. In addition to THE 355, THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE and GEORGE & TAMMY, Freckle Films has produced the film, MOTHERS’ INSTINCT for NEON, the upcoming Apple Originals’ limited series, THE SAVANT, and Michel Franco’s upcoming film DREAMS.

Charles Roven

Charles Roven is an Academy Award and Golden Globe winning producer and a founder of Atlas Entertainment. Renowned for his creative vision and collaborative spirit, Roven has overseen the production of numerous acclaimed films, television series, and music projects. His films have collectively grossed over $10.6 billion at the global box office, placing him number seven among the top ten highest grossing producers of all time.

Recent highlights include Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER, which earned seven Academy Awards including Best Picture. Throughout his career, Roven has been instrumental in shaping the DC Expanded Universe with films like MAN OF STEEL, THE SUICIDE SQUAD, and WONDER WOMAN, alongside other notable works including the Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winning AMERICAN HUSTLE, 12 MONKEYS, CITY OF ANGELS, TRIPLE FRONTIER, UNCHARTED, and the cinematic phenomena THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy. Currently, Roven is in post-production on both John Woo’s THE KILLER for Universal Pictures and the Amazon MGM Studios film MERCY.

In 2018, Roven received the prestigious David O. Selznick Achievement Award from the PGA for his outstanding body of work in motion pictures. We are pleased to recognize CHARLES ROVEN with the Power of Cinema Award. The Power Of Cinema Award honors an individual or organization whose actions through storytelling have advanced the significance and social relevance of film in today’s modern culture. Previous award honorees include Kevin Goetz & Screen Engine, Jason Blum & Blumhouse, Participant, Adam Aron/AMC Theatres, Dolby Laboratories, IMAX, Sue Kroll and Jeffrey Katzenberg.

About the Event

Since 1986, the American Cinematheque Award is presented annually to an extraordinary artist currently making a significant contribution to the art of the Moving Picture. The American Cinematheque’s mission is to celebrate the experience of cinema as a moving art form; we create spaces where both the public and members of the film industry come together as a community with the common language and love of film.

Established in 1984, the American Cinematheque is a member-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural arts organization dedicated to building an engaged film community through immersive film curation, conversation, and presentation.  Since it first began showing films in theatres in 1985, the American Cinematheque has provided a wide range of film programming, with both new and repertory cinema, hosting screenings, panels and special events with thousands of filmmakers. The AC showcases 1,500 films a year; it connects the filmmaker to the audience and film history to its future. Presenting in 35mm, 70mm, rare nitrate, and state-of-the-art-digital.

Sid Grauman Award Honorees

The Sid Grauman Award was presented from 2015 to 2019 to honor individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Hollywood film industry in the continuing advancement of theatrical exhibition. Although the Award was retired following the 2019 event, the AC continues to celebrate their many professional contributions.
