Covid-19 Safety and Procedures

The American Cinematheque is closely monitoring the guidelines issued by LA County and will continue to evolve our safety protocols as the mandates change. Your health and safety, in addition to that of our employees, remains our highest priority.

General Guidelines

  • Stay home if you feel sick. If you’re coughing, sneezing, feel a tickle in your throat or think you might have been exposed, don’t risk it.
  • Please maintain 6 ft. of physical distancing at all times, except members of the same household or those that attend together. Follow the directional signs and the reminders posted throughout the theatre for guidance.
  • Please wear a mask at all times while in the common spaces and auditoriums. If you forget yours, we will provide you with a mask.
  • Eating and/or drinking is only permitted while seated in the auditorium. Please protect yourself and others by wearing a mask during your movie after eating and/or drinking.
  • WASH YOUR HANDS! Frequently.
  • Hand sanitizer stations are positioned throughout the space including all building entrances and other high-traffic areas and filled regularly.
  • When exiting the theatre, please use the different exits and avoid crowding in the lobby and staircase.
  • Audience will be staggered when entering the theatre: 10 people in at a time to limit lines at concession & bathrooms.

Seating & Capacity

  • We are a single-screen theatre with limited capacity, and we thank you in advance for your understanding as we use seat optimization in order to seat as many eager movie-goers as possible and abide by current mandates.
  • Current regulations for Movie Theatres in Los Angeles county (Yellow Tier) mandates that we operate at 50% capacity.
  • Seating is currently reserved-only, and assigned to you during purchasing to maintain proper physical distancing between guests. Subject to change as mandates are lifted.
  • Auditorium has a carefully predetermined seating chart in order to prioritize safety to keep audience members at a safe distance of at least 6 ft.
  • Please respect and be mindful of other patrons as you enter and exit the theatre.
  • An usher will direct you with entering and exiting the theatre to ensure audience safety.
  • Please remain in your seat once the movie ends, then exit by row.
  • Fire exits will be accessible for leaving the theatre after the screening.

Concessions

  • The concessions stand is equipped with sturdy and customized plexiglass screens to protect and keep customers and staff safe.
  • Cash registers are equipped with a card swiper on the counter on the side of the customer – no exchange will happen between the customer and staff.
  • Social distancing in the concession line, properly marked on the floor, to help customers maintain six feet of distance from each other.
  • Our full concessions offerings of freshly popped popcorn, soda fountain and candy will be available for purchase.
  • Wrapped straws will be provided to the customer upon request and there will be no station for popcorn butter and other self-dispensed items.

Bathroom

  • Automatic sensor faucets and soap dispensers, and multifold hand-towel dispensers.
  • A staff bathroom attendant will be present to prevent overcrowding.
  • A line will be present outside each restroom with the proper floor marks for six-feet social distancing.
  • Every other restroom stall to be blocked off to reduce capacity to help with social distancing.

Sanitation & Cleaning

  • All auditoriums will be thoroughly disinfected after each screening with professional electrostatic sanitization machines.
  • Please take advantage of the available hand sanitizer stations throughout the theatre.
  • There is a daily thorough cleaning of bathrooms, concession stand, lobby and a static sprayer for cleaning the theatres.
  • iWave ionizer (Aero Theatre) for improved air filtration, circulation and purification.

Employee Screening & Testing

  • All staff is required to wear masks at all times, wash hands frequently and wear gloves.
  • Employees with temperatures above the CDC or state/local threshold will not be permitted to work or return to work until they show no symptoms and are feeling better.
  • Temperature checks will take place for all staff at the entrance to the theater before their shift using a Non-Contact Infrared Forehead Thermometer.
  • Every day before they begin working, we’ll ask our team members if they have experienced symptoms of COVID-19 or been in close contact with someone who has tested positive or presumed positive with COVID-19.
