ABOUT THE FILMS:

BLOOD ON THE MOON, 88 Minutes, Park Circus, USA.

Originally released November 11, 1948 by Warner Bros.

Screenplay by Lillie Hayward from the Saturday Evening Post serial story by Luke Short

Produced by Sid Rogell

Directed by Robert Wise

Robert Mitchum ditches his fedora and trench coat for a Stetson and chaps in this evolutionary noir-stained Western. Robert Wise’s stellar “A” picture debut is complemented by screenwriter Lillie Hayward’s adaptation of Luke Short’s novel transplanting the rain slicked alleys of 1940s Los Angeles into the wide-open spaces of the 19th-century West. Gorgeously lensed by ace noir cinematographer Nicholas Musaraca, this picture was the forerunner of a darker genre of Westerns that became preeminent on the big and small screens during the next decade.

CAST:  Robert Mitchum (Jim Garry), Barbara Bel Geddes (Amy Lufton), Robert Preston (Tate Riling), Water Brennan (Kris Barden), Phyllis Thaxter (Carol Lufton), Frank Faylen (Jake Pindalest), Tom Tully (John Lufton), Charles McGraw (Milo Sweet)

FORMAT: 35mm

PURSUED, 101 Minutes, Paramount Pictures, USA.

Originally released March 5, 1947 by Warner Bros.

Screenplay by Niven Busch

Produced by Milton Sperling

Directed by Raoul Walsh

Niven Busch (THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE, THE FURIES) penned this Freudian tale of familial dysfunction headed by emerging star Robert Mitchum and Busch’s wife Teresa Wright. A compelling (and uncompromisingly violent) exposition of noir family values transposed onto the American West is directed with verve by Raoul Walsh and gorgeously lensed on location in Gallup, New Mexico, by the great James Wong Howe.

CAST:  Robert Mitchum (Jeb Rand), Teresa Wright (Thor Callum), Judith Anderson (Ms. Callum), Dean Jagger (Mr. Callum), Alan Hale Sr. (Jake Dingle), John Rodney (Adam Callum), Harry Carey Jr. (Prentice)

FORMAT: DCP
