Mike Judge In Person Tribute

http://www.myspace.com/americancinematheque

It's hard to believe it's been 17 years since Mike Judge's cultural icons Beavis and Butt-head played their first game of frog baseball on MTV's Liquid Television, spreading their message of nachos and fire. The Beavis and Butt-head decade culminating in a big screen movie was followed by television's second longest running animated show, "King of the Hill," an innovative Emmy-award- winning cartoon that does not stray far from real life. Judge, the Austin, Texas-based creator, writer and director, also supplied his unique vocal talents to both shows, bringing to life everyone from champion father Hank Hill and the clarity-impaired Boomhauer to teenage metal heads Beavis and Butt-head as well as the liberal community college administrating dad in his latest show "The Goode Family." A true champion of animation, Judge, along with fellow animator Don Hertzfeldt, run a very successful touring animation festival called "The Animation Show," which screens shorts including the works of many independent filmmakers. Not new to live action, Judge's 1999 cult comedy, OFFICE SPACE, has become one of film history's most quotable movies, a sharp satire needling the numbing existence of office life. The hilarious and bold satire of the future of the American dream, IDIOCRACY, was unfortunately given a limited release but has become an underground hit based on it's own merit. Mike Judge returns to the big screen with EXTRACT a new comedy starring Jason Bateman, Ben Affleck, Mila Kunis and Kristin Wigg. Judge's satire of America's multitude of subcultures from headbanging metal heads to suppressed office workers to environmental blue staters to propane-loving red staters is often biting, but handled with kindness, creating characters you cheer for, even if they may not totally seem to deserve it.

Double Feature:

OFFICE SPACE, 1999, 20th Century Fox, 89 min. "Looks like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays." Cubicle worker Peter Gibbons is not a happy person: he hates his job, his boss is making him work on Saturday and his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. What’s a guy to do? Things start to change for Peter after a hypnotic suggestion frees him from the drudgery of the five-day workweek. Love, corporate fraud, Michael Bolton, efficiency experts and one very inflammatory stapler all come together in writer/director Mike Judge’s cult-comedy classic starring Ron Livingston and Jennifer Aniston. Trailer

BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD DO AMERICA, 1996, Paramount, 81 min. Dirs. Mike Judge & Yvette Kaplan. Beavis and Butt-head, recipients of the 1997 MTV Movie Award for best on-screen duo, are on a mission: Someone has stolen their beloved television, and they intend to do whatever it takes to recover it. Come along for the ride as our intrepid heroes take on America and all of the mayhem they can handle, plus a lot more. Let Cornholio help you get in touch with your inner adolescent: a whole lot of laughs are guaranteed and who knows…maybe you’ll even score, uh-huh, huh-huh. Trailer
