Arguably the greatest American acting teacher of the 20th century, Austrian-born Lee Strasberg (1901 1982) was co-founder of the legendary Group Theatre in New York in the 1930s, and the artistic director and guiding light of the Actors Studio from 1947 until his death. His list of students includes such names as Robert DeNiro, Anne Bancroft, Paul Newman, Eva Marie Saint, Dustin Hoffman, Joanne Woodward, Al Pacino, Julie Harris, Montgomery Clift and (perhaps most famously) Marilyn Monroe. Please join us in saluting this legendary acting teacher and performer, at a screening of Francis Ford Coppolas THE GODFATHER Part II (starring Strasberg and several of his most famous students), followed by a Q&A with Strasbergs widow Anna, actor Martin Landau, actresses Lesley Ann Warren & Sally Kirkland and others!
Wednesday December 5 7:00 PM Anna Strasberg, Lesley Ann Warren, Sally Kirkland and Martin Landau in-person!! THE GODFATHER Part II, 1974, Paramount, 200 min. Francis Ford Coppolas near-perfect sequel to the original GODFATHER follows Mob chieftain Al Pacino as he ruthlessly consolidates power in the Las Vegas gambling world of the late 1950s, while simultaneously flashing back to father Robert DeNiros brutal induction into the Mafia in 1900s Sicily and New York. Lee Strasbergs brilliantly understated film acting debut in his Academy Award-nominated performance as Jewish crime boss Hyman Roth, was one of his rare film appearances in an astounding internationally renowned career as an acting teacher, director, producer, actor, lecturer, writer and mentor, spanning more than 70 years. Discussion following with Anna Strasberg, Lesley Ann Warren, Sally Kirkland, Martin Landau and other guests. |
