AMORES PERROS (LOVES A BITCH), 2000, Lions Gate Films, 153 min. The official Mexican entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2001 Academy Awards, already hailed by the New York Times as "the first classic film of the new decade," AMORES PERROS is a kinetic, harrowing portrait of three separate lives that collide in a traffic accident in Mexico City. "Octavio & Susana" looks at a teenager (Gael García Bernal) who enters his dog in a brutal dogfight, to raise enough money to run off with his brothers wife. "Daniel & Valeria" follows a middle-aged businessman (Álvaro Guerrero) who abandons his loving family to take up with a beautiful young model. And "El Chivo & Maru" portrays a former revolutionary-turned-hitman (Emilio Echevarría), whose destiny is forever changed by witnessing the car accident. The directorial debut of Alejandro González Iñárritu -- a famous DJ in Mexico , AMORES PERROS features an amazing soundtrack that includes Celia Cruz and Café Tacuba.
Winner of numerous prizes worldwide, including the International Critics' Week Grand Prize in Cannes and the Audience Award at the AFI Fest 2000.
AMORES PERROS opens theatrically in L.A. on April 13th.
